Journey founder Neal Schon took to Twitter this week hoping to put to rest the on-going public feud with band frontman Arnel Pineda.
The story exploded in February over a disagreement about Journey’s 50th anniversary with Pineda being accused by Schon and his wife of nixing the idea of bringing back founding band member and lead vocalist Greg Rolie for the celebratory tour.
Fans chimed in with many lauding Pindea’s talents but still others saying he falls short when compared with previous frontmen such as Steve Perry.
Pineda responded by saying if Schon and the other bandmates weren’t happy with him they could fire him.
The bickering escalated a bit this week when Pineda accused Schon of calling him a nobody.
Schon tersely called that “bullsh*t.”
Schon explained that the “nobody” he was referencing wasn’t Schon, but those on social media who try to cause friction in the band.
“I’ve the upmost respect for Arnel , and obviously knew how talented he was, when I heard his voice singing many other styles. No way was I saying he wouldn’t be successful what I was saying is, if I had not found his links maybe he would not be as successful as he is now in Journey. Make sense ?”
Schon says it was he who found Pineda online and had him come in for an audition before he was hired by Journey.
Schon went on to apologize for what he considered a misunderstanding.
Pineda has not yet publicly responded to Schon’s apology.
