Fans and advocates are voicing their frustration with the casting for the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch.
It was recently announced that Kahiau Machado would play Nani’s love interest David.
Many people were upset that Disney chose not to cast David as an indigenous Hawaiian man with darker skin like he is depicted in the original cartoon version. Just last week, fans and advocates voiced similar concerns about the casting of Nani.
Twitter users called out the casting department for being colorist.
Hundreds of Twitter users have said they will not be watching the live-action remake because of the colorist casting. One Twitter provided a thread of films made by indigenous Hawaiians that people could support instead.
