Netflix recently announced that its new 3D animated series “Mech Cadets” will premiere globally on August 10, Deadline reports.
The series is based on a comic series of the same name by Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa. The cast will feature Daniel Dae Kim, Ming-Na Wen, Brandon Soo Hoo and Debra Wilson.
“Mech Cadets” follows Stanford Yu (Hoo) a teenager working as a janitor at Sky Corps who wants to become a Robo Pilot. Wen will play Yu’s loving but overprotective mother. Kim plays General Aiden Park, the leader of Sky Corps Academy and the Mech Cadet program. Wilson plays former Robo pilot Chief Max.
The new 3D animated version was created by BOOM! Studios and Polygon Pictures, Inc in collaboration with Netflix. BOOM! Studios released the following synopsis on its website.
“… after a terrifying alien species attacked our planet, and follows teenager Stanford Yu who works as a janitor at the Sky Corps Military Academy. But he’s only dreamed of one thing his entire life — to pilot a Robo Mech, giant robots from outer-space who came to our aid. When he finally gets his shot, Stanford and his classmates must put aside all personal differences and work together as a team in order to defend humanity against a new alien invasion.”
