A Florida coalition is celebrating the recent passage of an AAPI education bill in the state.

According to WFTV 9, Make Us Visible Florida, a statewide coalition, is being recognized Saturday for its role in HB 1537, which requires all Florida K-12 students in public schools to learn the history of Asian American and Pacific Islanders in the US.

Make Us Visible Florida will hold a celebration at Wah Lum Temple, located at 851 N. Goldenrod Road in Orlando, Click Orlando reports. The event will start at 2:30 p.m.

“We are so excited to be able to commemorate this moment in time, and take a moment to show gratitude to all of the advocates and volunteers and supporters of our legislation,” Make Us Visible Florida Director Mimi Chan told WUSF News.

There will be a lion dance and a kung fu show. Orlando Mayor Jerry Demings will present the coalition with a proclamation around 3:00 p.m. Florida state legislators like Sen. Linda Stewart, Rep. Rene Plasencia and Rep. Anna Eskamani are expected to attend, WFTV 9 reports.
