Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani will skip his next start on the pitching mound due to arm fatigue.
According to Sports Illustrated, Angels manager Phil Nevin said that Ohtani will not start against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, August 16. His next start will come during the three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds from August 21 to 23.
“Shohei asked to skip one start with what he said is some arm fatigue,” Nevin said, according to MLB.com. “There’s no pain or injury. Just some arm fatigue, so he’s gonna miss one start and get right back to where he was in his normal spot.”
Nevin also told reporters he trusts Ohtani’s judgment.
“Like I’ve told you guys many times, he knows his body better than anybody,” Nevin said. “I trust him when he talks about it. He assured me there’s no pain, no injury. He’s got some regular arm fatigue that pitchers go through at times. I trust him when he tells me this and that he’ll be ready for his next time out.”
The two-way player will remain in the batting lineup at the No. 2 spot. He is currently batting .305 with 40 home runs, 83 RBI, 16 stolen bases, a 1.068 OPS and a 9.0 WAR, Sports Illustrated reports.
