Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. today announced the hate crime indictment of a man suspected of assaulting an Asian couple in Koreatown.
Marc Jensen, 33, allegedly attacked an Asian man and woman, both 39, on May 23. Prosecutors say he approached the couple as they were getting into an Uber at about 1:30am on West 32nd Street. He allegedly made several anti-Chinese statements, spit on the woman and physically assaulted the man.
Police arrested Jensen in Boston on July 10. He was apparently living at an ultra-luxury building in Boston’s South Seaport area.
On Tuesday, August 15, D.A. Bragg announced that Jensen had been charged in a New York State Supreme Court with two counts of Assault in the Third Degree as a Hate Crime and two counts of Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor hate crime.
“As alleged, Marc Jensen spewed hateful anti-Chinese remarks before physically attacking this couple as they waited to turn in after a dinner out in Manhattan,” District Attorney Bragg said in a press release. “My Office’s dedicated and specially trained hate crimes prosecutors will continue to investigate incidents of hate and bias in our communities. My thoughts are with the victims of this attack.”
