Next Goal Wins, a Taika Waititi film about an American Samoa soccer team, premieres this November. According to Collider, the film will be released on November 17, 2023.
Next Goal Wins is based on the true story of Dutch-American coach Thomas Rongen’s attempts to help the American Samoa national football team qualify for the 2014 Fifa World Cup. According to Variety, the team infamously broke a world record in 2001 after losing a World Cup Qualification game 31-0.
A review from Variety, suggests the film largely centers around the Rongen character, who is played by Michael Fassbender. In the film, Rongen is sent to American Samoa after being fired from a previous job. His ex-wife hopes that the assignment will help him get his act together.
According to Collider, the cast also features names like Elisabeth Moss, Will Arnett, Rhys Darby, Uli Latukefu, Angus Sampson, Oscar Kightley, newcomer Kaimana, Beulah Koale, Rachel House, David Fane, Chris Alosio, Ioane Goodhue, Lehi Makisi Falepapalangi and many more.
