Shohei Ohtani’s Los Angeles Dodgers jersey has broken a sales record previously held by Lionel Messi.
Fanatics, an online retail company, announced that his jersey set an all-time record for sales within a 48-hour period.
Ohtani, a former Los Angeles Angels player, announced on Sunday that he would sign for the Dodgers. He will wear the number 17.
An employee from the Top of the Park gift shop at Dodgers Stadium told The Los Angeles Times that the first shipment of replica jerseys has arrived at the shop. The employee, who asked to remain anonymous, says the jerseys are selling fast.
Media has photoshopped Ohtani into Dodgers gear but the team has not yet released official photos of Ohtani in a Dodgers uniform.
