The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The team used an anime-themed video to announce the 25-year-old.
According to MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand, the deal is a 12-year contract worth $325 million. The Dodgers also paid a $50 million fee to his former Nippon Professional Baseball team, the Orix Buffaloes.
In the NPB, Yamamoto had a 70-29 win-loss record and a 1.82 ERA (earned run average), Sports Illustrated reports. He made five All-Star appearances and won the Sawamura award three years in a row.
“I’d like to thank everyone in the Orix organization, the Dodger organization and all the people close to me who have given me so much support throughout this free-agent process,” Yamamoto said in a statement, according to MLB.com. “I am truly excited to wear Dodger Blue and can’t wait to play in front of a packed Dodger Stadium.”
