Mosque in West Philly vandalized overnight in possible hate crime

Surveillance video shows an unidentified man spray painting a mosque with political slogans at 3 a.m. Friday morning in West Philadelphia, reports Patch.

Leader of the local chapter of the Council on Islamic-American Relations are calling for the case to be investigated as a hate crime.

Police said the suspect painted a Star of David on the mosque as well as the slogan “give peace a chance.”

“We will not be intimidated by such bigotry,” said Shuja Moore of Masjid Al-Jamia said in a statement. Our beautiful and amazingly diverse Al-Jamia community is more committed than ever to continue our efforts toward building bridges in our community and dispel the stereotypes about Islam. Should they come forward and admit to their mistake, we will be ready to have an informative and restorative conversation with this individual.”

The suspect was seen in a red coat and blue jeans, CBS reported.

Al-Jamia says this is the third mosque attacked with “bigoted language” in the last two months.
