Mayor Karen Bass has appointed Jieun Kim as Deputy Director of Korean Language Communications, addressing the need for better communication with the Korean American community in Los Angeles, according to the Korea Daily.
Kim, a former Field Representative for the City Council’s 12th District, brings valuable experience from both a city councilmember’s office and Korean American media companies like Korea Times Los Angeles and KBS America.
Considering the significant Korean American population in LA, the mayor’s office responded to concerns by initiating a focused recruitment drive, resulting in Kim’s appointment after four months.
“Hiring a Korean language communications director means that the Mayor’s Office will communicate more closely with the Korean American community,” Kim said to the Korea Daily. “I will do my best to ensure that the Mayor and the Mayor’s Office have more frequent opportunities to engage with the Korean American community.”
With Kim on board, the Mayor’s Communications Office, led by the Deputy Mayor of Communications, now comprises 11 members, including specialists in Spanish and Korean for foreign language communications.
