Alcohol flush reaction, often referred to as “Asian glow” or “Asian flush,” may now have a fix that comes in the form of gummies.
“Asian glow,” an immune response to drinking alcohol that affects many East Asians, results in redness on the face, neck and upper body.
Raylen Margono, the creator of Ando, the world’s first gummy to mitigate the symptoms of “Asian glow,” described regularly feeling embarrassed by the redness on his face every time he drank, Northwest Asian Weekly reported.
“Ando means relief in Korean, which is fitting for the type of problem we’re trying to solve,” Margono said, according to the report.
Ando, which consists of all FDA-approved ingredients, is berry-flavored, gluten-free and vegan, Next Shark reported.
The gummy is meant to be consumed half an hour before drinking to relieve redness, regulate one’s heart rate and lessen post-drinking side effect, the report said.
Margono, who was born in Indonesia and grew up in Singapore, said it was only after he moved to the U.S. for college that he started feeling self-conscious about his glow – and determined to do something about it. “The joy I get is from helping out folks that are underserved and bringing products and services to them to help better their lives whether it’s a company, foundation, product, employment that’s what motivates me in my life and how to give back to your community,” Margono told Northwest Asian Weekly.
