Researchers who discovered that turbans could potentially save a person from skull fractures have a real-life case to back up their findings.
The Daily Mail reports a Sikh cyclist slid on a wet road and under an oncoming car.
The man from Buckinghamshire in England suffered a leg injury, but otherwise remained intact- despite the back of his head scraping on the ground.
“I am sure that if I had not been wearing my turban then I would have been ended up with a serious head injury,” said Jagdeep Singh, 44.
Scientists at Imperial College London used crash dummies to determine that turbans can protect a person’s head from traumatic injuries from a fall.
The BBC reports the researchers determined that the extra fabric can offer “superior” protection against head injury.
The findings are particularly significant to Sikhs.
Co-author Gurpeet Singh points out that very little research has been done on this topic in a way that will allow people to practice their Sikh faith “with advanced, protective materials that are in line with their religious requirements.”
