After a shocking discovery that Indianapolis did not have a restaurant that served Filipino dishes, a husband-and-wife team from Beech Grove decided to open up a Filipino food truck.
The Taste of Manila food truck is run by Gracia, a native of the Philippines, and her husband Kevin, originally from Jamaica. Their food truck serves a delectable selection of Filipino favorites such as “hearty adobo bowls and pancit bowls, as well as classic lumpia and BBQ skewers.”
WishTV acknowledged that Gracia and Kevin’s love story began “with food and that first bite.” Kevin recalled, “Not only is she beautiful, but she can cook. Man, I got to marry her.”
Two years ago, Gracia started cooking her favorite childhood dishes and soon recruited Kevin to assist her with her cooking.
Filipino food brings Gracia a sense of nostalgia as she stated “It reminds me of my childhood. It reminds me of my Mom cooking dishes after school.”
While Filipino food is new to others, Gracia states that “Filipino food is not something where you’d say, ‘That looks amazing,’ but it’s something where you’d say, ‘That smells good, I want to try it.”
Despite being 8,000 miles away from her home in the Philippines, Gracia is a proud Filipino American and is even prouder to be able to bring “a little piece of the Philippines to Indy” and share it with everyone.
