This past Friday marked the official opening of Utah’s first H Mart, inviting locals to come in and browse for products that they might not normally find at other grocery stores.
The development of this H Mart has been underway for several years and now stands in the former location of Kmart at 1442 W. 9000 South in West Jordan, KSL reports.
Columbia University states that “H Mart is a supermarket chain that specializes in Asian food. The ‘H’ stands for ‘han ah reum’, a Korean phrase that roughly translates to one arm full of groceries.”
Founded in Queens in 1982, H Mart has expanded to become the largest Asian supermarket chain in the United States. The stores offer an extensive variety of Asian foods alongside a broad range of Western groceries.
Although H Mart primarily caters Korean items, it still offers a wide array of products from Chinese, Japanese, and various other cultures.
“You’re going to find things here that you won’t find anywhere else,” grocery manager Sam Reed told KSL.
The Utah branch offers an extensive range of offerings, from Korean snacks and assorted kimchi samples to convenient to-go options such as beef short rib rice bowls, Korean fried chicken, and sushi, FOX 13 reports. Additionally, customers can explore a remarkable selection of rice cookers and kitchen appliances along with a variety of notebooks and pens.
