More details have been revealed in the sexual assault case involving former NASA engineer Eric Sim.
Sim was arrested in February at Johnson Space Center and has since been charged with seven counts of sexual, KHOU 11 reports. Investigators have filed a search warrant and seized several of his electronic devices, unveiling new details about the case.
According to ABC 7 Chicago, forensic analysts found a folder called “sex tapes” on an external hard drive belonging to Sim, which contained videos of sexual encounters. Analysts believe he used glasses with a hidden camera to record the videos.
“Under each of the woman’s folder, there were photos of that woman saved, there were also screenshots of text messages saved,” the detective wrote in the affidavit per ABC 7 Chicago.
Detectives managed to contact five women who appeared in the video. All five women say they consented to the sexual encounters but did not consent to being recorded.
According to Click 2 Houston, it is not clear if the women in these videos are the ones who have accused Sim of sexual assault. Despite this lack of clarity, Sim’s lawyer claims it is proof of his innocence.
“I’m pleased to see the affidavit because what it says is what we have said all along that all sexual activity between Mr. Sim and any of these ladies that he went out with was consensual,” defense attorney Neal Davis told Click 2 Houston. “The evidence is actually showing he did not commit these offenses, that it was consensual sexual activity.”
Davis also claimed that the women who said they did not consent to be recorded may have only said so because they were “embarrassed” about agreeing to be recorded.
However, in the affidavit, one woman states that she was uncomfortable after she suspected Sim was recording.
“Complainant stated that during sex she felt as though the suspect was positioning her to face the computer and it was awkward,” the affidavit said per ABC 7 Chicago. “Complainant stated when she came out of the bathroom after the sex and the suspect was closing windows on his computer and it completely weirded her out.”
