Bachelorette Ep. 6: Keep the main thing the main thing

By Rachel Lu

Let’s “keep the main thing the main thing,” Sam M liked to say on the Bachelorette.

This week the “main thing” meant Jenn Tran would say good riddance to him.

Ahead of hometowns next week, the pressure is definitely on. So, when it was time for a group date at the radio station with a theme of “listening,” Sam M. did not handle the pressure well.

Before then, Jenn had been concerned, since the third episode, that the only connection between her and Sam M. is their sexual chemistry. Sam, on the other hand, kept emphasizing that all he ever wanted is to be a husband, start a family, and his love language is physical touch.

Well, so when Jenn asked him: “why me?” A very valid question. Rather than giving a real answer, he claimed that he loved her, followed by completely leaning into his “love language” and making out with Jenn.

The internet went wild tonight over Sam’s response. Most people, including fellow Jenn-tleman Devin, mocked Sam’s completely uncalled for and impulsive response.

Let’s not forget that on their first one-on-one, Sam practically forced Jenn to jump off of a building and was practically waving the red flag ever since. In the end, Jenn made the rational decision and sent Sam home.

Where Sam crumbled, others thrived. Jenn had a one-on-one with Marcus, where the two of them went up on a hot air balloon, taking dating to new heights. Before the date, Jenn was nervous that she might be farther along than Marcus – what a good problem to have for Marcus!

Alas, Marcus opened up to Jenn about his insecurities from growing up in the foster care system, which earned him Jenn’s care, empathy, and ultimately a rose.

Jeremy also went on his first one-on-one with Jenn, where he talked about his desire to share his Jewish identity with his future kids and family. Jenn was excited over the possibility of blending her Buddhist traditions with Jewish heritage as well. When THE bachelorette uses “our kids” in the conversation, you know you’re on the right track, and Jeremy got his well-deserved rose too.

Unfortunately, Grant was eliminated in this episode, but before viewers get too upset, Bachelor Nation made the official announcement that Grant will be the next bachelor!

ABC executive Rob Mills said on Twitter that they are announcing the new Bachelor far in advance so that people can still apply to be on his season.

Before we all get too excited for Grant and his season to come, don’t forget that hometowns are coming up next week, and if there is one thing all Asians share in common, it’s that family means everything.
