Former Cornell University student Patrick Bai has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for making anti-semitic threats.
According to USA Today, the 22-year-old from Pittsford, New York, was charged late last year for posting online threats towards Jewish students at Cornell. The U.S. Department of Justice announced last week that Bai will serve the sentence followed by three years of supervised release.
Dai admitted to posting the threats in court earlier this year. At his sentencing hearing, The Cornell Sun reports that he expressed regret over his posts.
“It’s all my fault,” Dai said per The Cornell Sun.
The Democrat & Chronicle reports that Dai’s attorney, public defender Lisa Peebles, believed that Dai should have been given a shorter sentence for several reasons including his mental health. He was diagnosed with autism after his arrest.
Peebles told USA Today that she plans to appeal his sentence.
