Jollibee, the popular Filipino fried chicken chain, announced Thursday it is bringing its boba tea shop to the United States.
The company is majority owner of the Milksha bubble tea brand which will be coming to three states-California, New York and Texas with plans to expand beyond that, reports Manila Bulletin.
Jollibee subsidiaries Milkshop Japan Inc. and MKSA LLC (MKSA) have agreed to a licensing agreement to expand Milkshop into the U.S.
“Franchising opportunities for other locations in the USA outside of the three states are likewise available through Milkshop Japan Inc,” the company said to ABS-CBN.
In November 2021, Jollibee became a majority owner of Milkshop International and also bought an interest in Milkshop Japan at the same time.
Jollibee has been aggressive in its international expansion plans and it appears the same may happen with Milkshop.
Since 2022, Milkshop has expanded to 327 locations with most of those shops in Taiwan (305), Hong Kong (14), Australia (6) and Britain (2), reports Bilyonaryo.
It’s products are also sold through 162 Chowking stores in the Philippines.
Milksha sales reached $96 million in 2023. That’s a 30% increase since its acquisition.
“Further, noteworthy to mention that Milksha delivered cash dividends less than one year from acquisition date. This once again proves JFC’s success in growing and scaling its acquired brands,” Jollibee said.
