Jessi issues apology following teenage fan assault incident

Jessi, a Korean American rapper and K-pop star has issued a public apology following an incident involving a teenage fan during the early hours of September 29, 2024, in southern Seoul.

According to The Straits Time, the fan encountered Jessi near a convenience store and approached her to ask for a photo, but after she declined, someone accompanying her attacked the fan with punches and kicks.

Jessi and her group left the scene, and the fan later contacted the police. According to the Korea Herald, on October 12, Jessi addressed the incident publicly, expressing regret and clarifying that the assailant was someone she had only met that day through a producer acquaintance. She admitted being unprepared for the situation and acknowledged that she could have done more to de-escalate the incident.

The apology triggered mixed reactions online. Some fans appreciated her transparency, while others criticized her for not intervening immediately. The incident has fueled ongoing discussions about fan safety at public events, with many calling for better protocols to prevent similar situations in the future.
