Ban Tien has been appointed Chief of Police for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) in Texas. He will be the first Asian American to lead the department.
METRO, which manages public transit across Houston and its surrounding areas, will benefit from Tien’s extensive law enforcement experience.
With more than 20 years of service in law enforcement, Tien previously served as Executive Assistant Chief for the Houston Police Department (HPD). His background in public safety and community engagement equips him to address METRO’s policing and security needs effectively.
According to Fox 26 Houston, METRO Board Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock stated, “This appointment reaffirms that METRO is no place for crime, and Chief Tien is the proven leader we need to safeguard the system.” Tien’s leadership is expected to prioritize dedication and accountability, fostering trust and safety within the transit system.
As reported by ABC13, Ban Tien’s appointment as METRO Police Chief underscores a focus on equitable and inclusive policing, aiming to build trust and stronger relationships with Houston’s diverse communities.
Tien’s appointment reflects METRO’s commitment to progressive leadership and highlights the growing representation of Asian Americans in public service roles.
