Trump nominates taps Kash Patel for FBI Director

President-elect Donald Trump will nominate Kash Patel for FBI director.

According to MSNBC, Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform on Saturday night.

In order to install Patel, Trump would need to fire current FBI Director Christopher Wray, Axios reports, would is allowed to remain in the position despite the administration change. Patel would then go through the same approval process as the other cabinet nominees.

If his nomination is approved, Patel would lead an organization he has been highly critical of in the past. CNN reports that he called for the FBI to be dismantled in a September podcast interview.

Patel is a former federal prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice. During the first Trump administration, he was the Chief of Staff to the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

According to Rolling Stones, Patel has repeatedly threatened to go after Trump’s enemies.
