Famed commercial photographer pushed to his death

The photography world is mourning the tragic death of Yasuomi Hashimura.

The News Minimalist reports a homeless man is suspected of pushing the 79-year-old man in New York, causing him to fall and hit his head.

The incident on October 22 left him in a coma for three weeks until he died.

Police arrested a suspect the following day after the fall and charged him with manslaughter.

According to his obituary, Hashimura is best known for his commercial work shooting ads for Coca-cola, Absolut and Panasonic.

His photograph is the first to ever be selected for a commemorative stamp honoring United Nations University in 1985.

He emigrated to the United States from Japan in 1968 and opened Hashi Studio in 1974. He is known for shooting with artistic angles and unique use of lighting.

He also became a source of assistance for many Japanese immigrants.

Police say he did not know his attacker. The motive of the attack is unknown.
