Police in Stockton, CA are investigating the possible connection between a December 23 murder and another killing in 2019.
CBS Sacramento reports officers responded to a home on Mount Elbrus Way where they found Sunil Yadav dead.
Reports in Indian media describe Yadav as an accused drug smuggler. The Economic Times indicates the Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility on Facebook for Yadav’s death.
The post claimed Yadav “had colluded with Punjab police to orchestrate the encounter of our beloved brother, Ankit Bhadu. We have avenged his death.”
Bhadu had been suspected in multiple murders. According to the Indian Express, police eventually tracked Bhadu down to the flat of one of his accomplices where they gunned him down in February 2019.
Police in Stockton told CBS Sacramento it is aware of these news stories and is investigating all possibilities, but does not believe the gang activity is local.
The District Attorney’s office says it has not seen an increase in Punjab gang activity in the county.
