Arson investigation begins after fires in LA’s Chinatown

Authorities have started an arson investigation after fires in Los Angeles’ Chinatown engulfed two buildings.

According to ABC 7 Los Angeles, fires were reported at two separate buildings in the 800 and 900 blocks of North Broadway around 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Fire crews put out the fires within minutes.

The security guard who called 911 said that an unidentified person was setting fires. KTLA exclusively obtained video footage that shows an individual approaching one of the structures, which housed a health food store that closed several years ago. The individual was carrying containers.

According to KTLA, witnesses also reported that a person was carrying gas cans near the area of the fires.

Police say that when they arrived they could not locate a suspect.
