Authorities confirmed Monday to the South China Morning Post that a Chinese American, two British and their interpreter have been captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The Chinese American has been identified as Faye Hall, a friend of the British couple also in custody, Barbie and Peter Reynolds, 75 and 79.
The couple’s daughter said she has not heard from her parents in three weeks when they first informed her they had been captured.
The Taliban reportedly said it would move quickly to resolve the matter.
“A series of considerations is being taken into account, and after evaluation, we will endeavor to release them as soon as possible,” the Irish News quoted the Taliban as saying about those captured.
While little has been reported about Hall, Peter Reynolds reportedly could die.
“It seems that if Peter and Barbie are not released soon, Peter may lose his life because he needs medication, and the Taliban are not allowing him it,” a statement published by the Manchester Evening News from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office stated.
The Reynolds have been in Afghanistan for 18 years while running a school program there. They chose to stay in the country even after the Taliban seized power there.
They were just trying to help the country they loved,” their daughter Sarah Entwistle said.
