Trump resurrects law used to incarcerate Japanese Americans

President Trump could as early as tomorrow resurrect the Alien Enemies Act- a law last used during World War II to incarcerate Japanese Americans during WWII, reports ABC News.

This time the President wants to use the Act to deport or detain the citizens and natives of an enemy nation. It could be used to deport people without a hearing.

“As commander in chief, I have no higher responsibility than to defend our country from threats and invasions, and that is exactly what I am going to do,” Trump said previously in his inauguration speech, according to USA Today.

Late in January, the Japanese American Citizens League applauded a move to repeal the act by Representative Ilhan Omar and Senator Mazie Hirono.

Trump says he will use the act to eliminate foreign gangs and criminals. It’s the same sort of argument he’s used to justify the mass deportations he has threatened.

However, NBC reports the number of deportations under Trump’s second term is slightly lower than that of Biden.
