In Park City, a man is currently facing a hate crime charge in connection with homophobic and racist comments he allegedly made at the end of last year
According to Town Lift, court documents allege that Calvin Spencer Rawe, 35, made several harassing phone calls between December 30, 2024, and January 5, 2025. The calls, according to KSL.com, were made to Summit County sheriff’s sergeant and someone involved in the recent ski patrol strike.
Rawe, who is from Alpine, Wyoming, now faces a misdemeanor charge of electronic communication harassment, with a hate crime enhancement.
KPCW reports that authorities believe Rawe was attempting to harass a witness who was involved in labor disputes at Vail Resorts. According to KSL.com, court documents allege that a witness received a call “during which the caller had become enraged and used vulgar words for female body parts and threatened to travel to Vail Resorts and cause harm to transgendered people and those involved with the strike.”
Summit County Sheriff’s Sgt. Zach Nakaishi says he called the number and confirmed it belonged to Rawe. He claimed that Rawe left him several threatening messages with racist slurs and references to his Japanese heritage.
“Do you think it is funnier that we put all the Japanese people into internment camps or that we dropped an atom bomb?” he said in one call, per KSL.com.
