An Indian American doctor and her family members were killed in a plane crash in upstate New York this past weekend.
According to CBS News, Dr. Joy Saini, her daughter Karenna Groff, her son Jared Groff and her husband Dr. Michael Groff were killed when a twin-engine Mitsubishi MU-2B went down in a field in Copake, N.Y., around noon on Saturday. Karenna’s partner (James Santoro) and Jared’s partner (Alexia Couyutas Duarte) were also killed.
Video shows the small plane intact before it crashes at a high speed into the ground. NBC News reports that the plane was 10 miles south of Columbia County Airport, its destination, when it crashed. The pilot had attempted a landing and then crashed during the second attempt.
National Transportation Safety Board member Todd Inman says the NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash alongside the FAA.
“Our mission is to understand not just what happened, but why it happened, and to provide recommendations for it not to happen again,” Inman said, per USA Today.
He asked that anyone with footage of the crash to email the NTSB at [email protected].
