FAWK: Funny Hmong +Friends Super Show Saturday

The Minneapolis area is home to the densest Hmong American population in the country. It’s the ideal setting for the Hmong (+Friends) Super show taking place Saturday, April 19 at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts.

The comedy showcase is produced by the Funny Asian Women Kollective or FAWK. It features a group of women described as poj laib – bad girl or gangster in Hmong.

“In the last 15 years, Hmong women have reclaimed the term to mean ‘badass and strong.’ FAWK is committed to spotlighting funny, edgy, unapologetic Asian women and their stories,” said FAWK co-founder Lee-Yang.

Special guests include Lin Sun, the first Cambodian comedian to have a one-hour special on Amazon Prime; and Ntxawm Kam, who has amassed a following of 61.7k followers across TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram for her comedic videos.

In addition to acts by founders May Lee-Yang, Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay, and Naomi Ko, solo acts will be performed by Eve Vang, Bee Vang-Moua, and Yingya Vang.

They will tackle themes of cultural quirks, feminism, and family histories in honor of the 50th anniversary of the resettlement of Hmong Americans and other Southeast Asians to the United States.
