Flower Drum Song & M*A*S*H* actor dead at 82

A Filipino American actor on Broadway, TV and major motion pictures has died from pneumonia at the age of 82, the Hollywood Reporter reported.

Patrick Adiarte appeared on both Broadway and in motion pictures in The King and I and Flower Drum Song. In the later, he played the second son Wang San and performed You Be the Rock, I’ll Be the Roll.

Producers also casted him as one of the royal children in the stage version of the King and I and he later returned for the movie as Prince Chulalongkorn.

He’s been also featured in a recurring role in season 1 of the long running TV hit M*A*S*H* as well as in The Brady Bunch.

His family issued the following statement on Instagram.

“Uncle Patrick was not only a relative, but he was also an entertainment and Hollywood legend. Actually called by many as the “Philippine Dancing Legend.” From Broadway, to movies, television, choreography, photography, you name it, he could do it. You may not know the name, but I will guarantee you would know him if you are a fan of old musicals and classic TV.”

According to Deadline, Adiarte was born in Manila in 1943. He was imprisoned by the Japanese along with his family during WWII before immigrating to the United States by way of Ellis Island in ’46.
