Residents in Irvine near Los Angeles awoke to the commotion of immigration agents raiding a nearby family home.
“”We have a warrant. Come out with your hands up,” a neighbor recalled to ABC7 News hearing the immigration officers barking out over a loudspeaker.
They would later learn agents had hoped to question a 29-year-old man, but he apparently had moved out of his parent’s home to New York a month ago.
According to his parents, agents want to question their son Michael Chang about flyers plastered around Los Angeles.
Annie Yang and Yu Zong Chang say investigators who came to their home wanted to ask their son about posters that included the name and addresses of ICE agents. Investigators told them the IP address traced back to their home.
“(It’s) never happened. I feel like it was in the movie set,” Yang said to NBC LA. The couple reached out to their son who advised them he would retain a lawyer.
“They want to find out what’s Michael’s involvement is in this,” YuZong Chang said.
The parents said their son had been arrested during a protest at UC Irvine in support of Palestinian rights. They say prosecutors dropped the charge after he completed his community service.
ICE agents confirmed they executed a search warrant on the home with the help of the Secret Service.
“We are unable to provide any additional information at this time,” the statement read.
