BTS sets new record on NPR

The popular K-pop group, BTS, has set a new record on National Public Radio (NPR).

On Monday, BTS played their first Tiny Desk concert on NPR. The concert broke the series record for most YouTube views on its first day in about 25 minutes, according to NPR. The video received over 6 million views on Monday and brought in over 100,000 new subscribers.

BTS is no stranger to breaking records. On August 21 BTS premiered their first English song, “Dynamite” at midnight and broke YouTube’s view for a video premiere of 1.1 million views in 24 hours and soared to the No.1 spot on the billboard 100 chart.

After NPR released the concert video, Gabe Rosenberg, the digital news editor for Columbus Ohio, NPR affiliate WOSU, asked fans to consider donating to public radio stations in a tweet.

According to The Washingtonian, BTS fans did exactly that. Many replied to Rosenberg’s tweet saying they had donated to NPR or their local public radio station.

It is not unusual for BTS fans, known as “ARMY” to funnel mass donations.  They raised more than $1 million for Black Lives Matter after the band and its label donated the same amount earlier this year.

It is unclear how much money BTS fans have raised for public radio stations since the concert, but fans have continued to share their donations since Monday.
