A religious sect long suspected of being a cult took a scary turn recently when its leader Rev. Hyung Jin Moon told his followers they “must be prepared to take up arms and die for President Donald Trump,” reports Religion Unplugged.
Moon describes himself as the “king of kings” and his followers are commonly referred to as Moonies.
In the broadcast on November 12, Moon talked as if the Presidential election was undecided saying if the Democrats win with Joe Biden, his followers must stand up against them for President Trump to serve a second term.
“Do you understand what kind of unbelievable totalitarianism you will live under if you don’t stand up against this crap?” Moon said. “And yes, you may have to die for it.”
According to Reuters, Moon previously had described the election as a choice between “good or evil.”
“Whether it be going to a Trump rally, or whether it be just going to a certain, a holy place to pray, or whether it be going on the street and waving flags… what we are mostly focusing on is the spiritual nature of the battle and a fervent prayer,” said Moon.
Last year, a former Moonie also described Trump followers as a cult saying the president uses mind control to build a following.
“We can start with the pathological lying, which is characteristic of destructive cult leaders,” Steve Hassan told CNN, according to Marketwatch. “The blaming others and never taking responsibility for his own failures and faults. Shunning and kicking out anyone who raises questions or concerns about his own behavior.”
Hassan is author of the book The Cult of Trump.
