Karm Bains will serve as the first Sikh American member on the Sutter County (CA) Board of Supervisors, FOX40 reports.
Bains was elected to the 4th District County Supervisor seat during the November 2020 elections.
Bains was born the youngest of three children in Yuba City, California according to his campaign website. His parents, Didar Singh Bains and Santi Bains, are third-generation Sikh American farmers. Bains spent a lot of time working on the family farm.
When he wasn’t working on the farm, Bains enjoyed playing soccer, football and basketball. He graduated from Sutter Union High School. He went on to study Agricultural Science at Yuba Community College and California State University Fresno.
Bains later married Hapreet. The two are currently raising their four children in Sutter County.
According to FOX40, Bains focused his campaign on public safety, homelessness and COVID-19 economic recovery.
“Karm’s vision includes reducing crime and homelessness, fixing our roads, protecting the water that is critical to our economy, partnering with schools to make them safer, and ensuring greater cooperation to mitigate disaster impacts and create a thriving local economy,” his website states.
Bains told FOX40 he was grateful for the support he had received from the community.
“I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for the support of some remarkable people and organizations,” Bains said. “There was a profound amount of teamwork that went into this campaign and I am honored and grateful for the support that was bestowed upon me throughout this race.”
He emphasized that he is dedicated to serving Sutter County residents.
“I feel the immense weight of this responsibility and the importance behind each decision I will make on behalf of the Sutter County residents,” he said. “I will listen to the residents, seek out opinions, provide solutions and lead with integrity, kindness and humility.”
