Downtown Las Vegas put on a show Saturday night to honor former Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh who died in Connecticut Friday from injuries sustained in a house fire.
Hsieh will be remember as a titan who devoted much of his energies to revitalizing the Downtown Las Vegas area.
The light show held at what locals refer to as the Fremont Street Experience went on like clockwork at the top of each hour beginning at 8 and running through Midnight, according to KTNV.
Several downtown casinos also marked the somber occasion by devoting their marquees to honor Hsieh. NBC3 Las Vegas posted a slide show commemorating the night.
“He basically made it (Downtown Las Vegas) a beautiful place for artists, creators and for people to build something from the ground up,” local Steven Campbell said to KLAS-TV.
Hsieh’s book Delivering Happiness debut at number 1 on the NY Times Bestseller list and stayed number 1 for 27 consecutive weeks. The book profiled his entrepreneurial spirit, passion and purpose.
