Police believe the human remains found at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park near Columbia, MO are that of Mengqi Ji, KMIZ reports.
Ji has been missing for some 18 months.
Park rangers and Columbia Police closed off a portion of Rock Bridge on Thursday after a hiker found the badly decomposed remains Thursday.
“The Columbia Police Department does not give up on providing closure to victims and their families and community members that are impacted by incidents like this,” Columbia Mayor Brian Treece said, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune.
Her husband, Joseph Elledge faces a first degree murder charge in her death.
He also faces charges in a separate case for child abuse, child endangerment and third degree domestic assault.
DNA testing will be conducted to confirm the body’s identity. However, police found items belonging to Ji near the body including credit cards and a driver’s license, KMIZ reported.
