Pamela Chen became the first Chinese American federal judge in New York when she was sworn in Friday, reports the New York Daily News.
The daughter of Chinese immigrants is just the second Chinese American federal judge in the nation, according to the newspaper.
She was sworn in the same room adorned by a mural by Edward Laning entitled “The Role of the Immigrant.”
“It reminds us that we are strongest as a nation while remembering the commonalities rather than the differences of our cultures,” Chen said.
