Ukulele extraordinaire Jake Shimabukuro will perform live this evening in a special performance for the AARP.
The free concert is part of the senior advocacy group’s celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
To get a link to view the stream, you must register for the event. It begins tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern/5 Pacific and 2 p.m. Hawaii time.
“We could all use a little more music in our lives,” Shimabukuro said, according to Maui Now. “AARP studies have shown that music can help to reduce stress, boost mood and inspire movement. Music can also encourage social interaction through activities like singing, dancing and performing together.”
Shimabukuro takes the ukulele to new heights. His music defies categorization as it combines elements of jazz, blues, funk, rock, bluegrass, classical, folk, and flamenco.
You likely won’t see a hula skirt on stage in one of his concerts.
Among his more than two dozen awards is a Grammy for best classical crossover album.
