Atlanta police say woman kidnapped and then killed

Police in Atlanta says a person of interest is in custody for the violent kidnap of a woman outside her home before being shot hours later.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports Mariam Abdulrab returned overnight from her work at a bar when someone kidnapped her at gunpoint.

Surveillance video obtained by CBS46 shows the 27 year old being forced into a car Friday morning.

Police identified the person of interest as 27-year-old Demarcus Brinkley of Griffin who they took into custody following a high speed chase.

Brinkley hit a gold color Buick and life flight needed to be called to take both drivers to Atlanta Medical Center.

“My daughter was the most peaceful and loving person. She did not deserve this,” Mariam Abdulrab’s father, Khalid Abdulrab said to 11Alive.

Co-workers at the Revery Bar described the victim on Instagram as a “light to every single person she came in contact with and will forever be missed.”

“During the investigation, investigators determined the shots fired call was likely related to this incident and investigators were responding to canvas the area when a witness called at around 9:55 a.m. and advised of a deceased person found near 1907 Lakewood Avenue,” police said in a statement to 11Alive.

“Mariam was a living jewel. She shone,” said Grant Henry, owner of quirky Edgewood bar Church, where Abdulrab also sometimes worked, according to the Journal Constitution.
