Rep Ted Lieu (D-CA) is coming under some scrutiny from conservative media for donations he made to his alma mater, Stanford, at least two years before his son applied there.
FEC records show Lieu made two separate donations from his campaign war chest of about $25,000 each between 2016 and 2018, reported the Washington Examiner. His son will be entering his 1st year at Stanford in the fall and is scheduled to graduate in 2025.
Critics are comparing the donations to the Varsity Blues scandal in which well known people including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin made large contributions to universities in an effort to sway admission decisions.
Lieu was a harsh critic of the Trump administration during its four years.
According to Fox, campaigns are allowed to donate money, but that money “cannot be used for purposes that personally benefit the candidate.”
The Center of Responsible Politics says such donations from campaigns are common, but they usually come from politicians who are retiring, and not someone like Lieu who is still active.
Lieu and Stanford did not respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
The news came to light from an anonymous account on Twitter which has since been suspended by the social media giant.

Whatever. Ted was our district’s congressman and i am politically with him on everything.i dont care about his personal , private life.
