Son arrested after dad found buried in backyard

A 19-year-old is under arrest for the murder of his father found buried in his own backyard in Fairfax, VA, reports Patch.

Truman Nguyen, 78, had been reported missing Monday. Police arrested his son Philip Nguyen on second degree murder charges.

According to WUSA 9, it’s the fifth time this year alone that a son has been arrested for the murder of his father.

“A disturbing trend, indeed,” said Fairfax Police Chief Kevin Davis.

“Here we are again, I’m heartbroken,” said Fairfax County Police Major Crimes Bureau Chief Ed O’Carroll.

Fairfax County has seen an alarming spikes in homicide- 18 compared to 6 at this same time last year.

Authorities found the body after getting a tip, reported CrimeOnline.

Police confirmed the son lived with his father, but did not offer a possible motive for the crime. However, officers had been at the home recently for a domestic disturbance call.

“Truman was an awesome neighbor,” said next door neighbor Sherry Garay to WUSA. “I mean, the first day I moved into the house in 1999, Truman came over to introduce himself. Told me a lot of his background. Told me that if we ever needed anything, he was there for us. He was always gardening.”

  1. I don’t know what transpired but I knew this kid. Yes, he’s a child even at 19. Anytime he was at my home he showed complete respect; yes ma’am no ma’am, let me help you with that. This child helped me move a month ago. He isn’t a monster. I don’t know what happened but I think we need to consider that his father was nearly 69 yrs older than him and very traditional. When he tried to have friends over, it wasn’t allowed; his father looked at his buddies and said GO HOME. GO HOME NOW. Also, why did his mother leave ? And why would she leave him there to defend himself?

Don’t cast bullshit on things you don’t know. Phillip graduated highschool and was one of the nicest kids I’ve even met. I do not know what went on in that home but I know and have seen enough in my life to know they weren’t nice to this child.

He should’ve had help or felt like he could tell someone what was actually going on. He didn’t, that means we all failed him. He should’ve felt safe to get help.
