Bretman Rock has made history as Playboy’s first openly gay cover star, CNN reports.
Rock appears on the cover of the October 2021 digital issue wearing lingerie, a black bow-tie and the Playboy bunny ears.
The 23-year-old Filipino beauty influencer rose to fame on Youtube when he began posting makeup tutorials. He is the third man to appear on the cover of the magazine, but the first openly gay man to do so, NBC News reports.
Anthony Allen Ramos, LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD’s head of talent, told NBC News that the cover was a “powerful step forward in the ongoing movement towards greater diversity and inclusion in fashion and modeling.”
Playboy posted a photo from the digital cover shoot on Instagram. The post included a quote from Rock who spoke about the “surreal” moment.
“For Playboy to have a male on the cover is a huge deal for the LGBT community, for my brown people community and it’s all so surreal,” Rock said. “A total ‘is this even f——- happening right now?’ type of vibe. And I’m so pretty.”
