New Star Wars film to be directed by Taika Waititi

The next Star Wars film will be directed by Taika Waititi.

Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president, said the next big-screen film from the franchise will come from Kaitiki and screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns, according to an interview with Vanity Fair. She said the two are still working on the script.

The franchise is also moving away from constantly producing trilogies. Screencrush reports that they are planning to create a few one-offs and to continue their Disney+ television series.

“I hesitate to use the word trilogies anymore because Star Wars is much more about persistent storytelling,” Kennedy said to Vanity Fair.

The New Zealand filmmaker, known for directing films such as Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, is an owner of an Academy Award, a BAFTA, a Grammy Award, and several more, according to AV Club
