Assamad Nash, 25, was indicted in March for the murder of Christina Lee, 35. Surveillance camera footage shows Nash following Lee into her apartment building. However, Nash stated in an interview from Rikers Island that he believes the evidence is not enough to sentence him.
“First of all, they gotta have me on camera killing her, I’m not on camera touching her at all,” Nash said. “They only got me on camera going into the building, that’s it. They ain’t got no camera showing me killing that lady.”
Nash faces three charges, including one count of murder in the first degree, one count of burglary in the first degree and one count of burglary in the first degree as a sexually motivated felony, AsAmNews reports. Nash is accused of stabbing Lee to death 40 times, and she bled to death in her bathtub.
The New York Post also reported that Nash changed his story in a jailhouse interview this week. Initially, Nash alleged that another man had murdered Lee — however, Nash now alleges that Lee invited him over for a drink. Nash also revealed he was also under the influence around the time of Lee’s murder.
Lee was a digital producer at the company Splice, AsAmNews reports. Her landlord remembers her as a wonderful soul, with the rest of her life ahead of her.
