President Biden has issued denouncing the killings of four Muslim American men in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Three Muslim men have been ambushed and shot in the past two weeks. A fourth Muslim man was similarly shot and killed in November 2021. Albuquerque police and the FBI believe the killings are connected.
“I am angered and saddened by the horrific killings of four Muslim men in Albuquerque,” President Biden said in his statement. “While we await a full investigation, my prayers are with the victims’ families, and my Administration stands strongly with the Muslim community. These hateful attacks have no place in America.”
The Muslim community in Albuquerque is living in fear of the next shooting.
“Especially when evening comes, nobody goes out, they’re rushing to finish everything during the daytime,” Dr Mahmoud Eldenawi, imam of the Islamic Center of New Mexico in Albuquerque, told the Guardian. “Unless it’s urgent they don’t leave home in the evenings. Everybody thinks they’re a target.”
Police are patrolling the areas where the killings occurred. It is unclear if they have any leads.
