Disney’s California Adventure Park will now be home to the fictional city of San Fransokyo.
San Fransokyo is the main location of Disney’s film Big Hero 6. The cityscape is a blend of the two cities that inspired its name: San Francisco and Tokyo. According to CNET, Disney announced during its D23 Expo that it would transform California Adventure’s Pacific Wharf into San Fransokyo.
The Pacific Wharf is designed to imitate the piers in San Francisco and the northern California coast. According to KTLA 5, the wharf will now incorporate more Japanese architecture and design. Japanese lanterns will adorn the faux-dilapidated metal sidings.
Disney has released a promotional image that details art concepts for San Fransokyo. The entrance, which is currently a fisherman’s bridge, will now include Japanese architecture.
“Imagineers are in the early phases of this work, but you can see glimpses of what’s to come for children of all ages – the young and young at heart. There will be a place to meet Baymax, plus new spots to eat and shop,” Disney said, according to KTLA 5.
It is unclear when construction on the Pacific Wharf will begin.
