Soccer Star scores outstanding hat-trick

Son Heung-Min scored a hat-trick for Tottenham Hotspur in their game against Leicester City on Saturday.

Last year, the Korean soccer star won the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot, an award given to the player who scores the most goals that season. Son shared the award with Liverpool player Mo Salah, both scoring 23 goals. None of Son’s goals were penalty kicks, unlike Salah who scored five penalty kicks.

The Tottenham forward has struggled with productivity this season, with zero goals in five appearances. His performance led his head coach Antonio Conte to bench him for Saturday’s match against Leicester. He entered the game in the 59th minute and scored three goals in 13 minutes.

His first goal came in the 73rd minute. He took on two players and blasted the ball into the top right corner with his right foot.

The second goal came in the 84th minute: a left-footed strike that curled beyond Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward.

He completed his hat-trick in the 86th minute, scoring a goal during a counter-attack. The goal was initially called offside but the Video Assistant Referee confirmed the goal was indeed onside minutes later.

Conte knew today’s hattrick was an important moment for the player and the team.

“To have a player of this level on the bench it means in one moment I can change the game,” Conte said, according to Sky Sports. “Today the rotation was for Son, but in the next round when we have 12 games in a row, other players will be involved. If you want to play massive games in the Premier League and Champions League, they have to start to understand rotation is very important.”

In his post-match interview, Son admitted some of his frustration was now going away.
