Family of 4 missing in California

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office have taken a “person of interest” into custody in the kidnapping of a family of four in California.

ABC News reports that eight-month-old Aroohi Dheri and her parents 27-year-old mother Jasleen Kaur and 36-year-old father Jasdeep Singh were kidnapped in Merced County. Aroohi’s uncle, 39-year-old Amandeep Singh, was also kidnapped.

The Guardian reports that Naindeep Singh, the head of a local Sikh community organization, said that the family was taken from gas station and convenience store they owned. Investigators released photos from surveillance footage of a possible suspect.

According to CNN, Alexandra Britton, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that the 48-year-old person they have taken into custody is the suspect they released photos of earlier.

The family is still missing and detectives are unsure about possible motives behind the kidnapping.

“Investigators continue to follow up on all leads and are working diligently to find the family,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement Tuesday, according to CNN.

Anyone with information regarding the family’s whereabouts is asked to call the Merced County Sheriff’s Office at 209-385-7445.
