Eligible Asian Americans voters increase by 9% in 4 years

A new survey by the Pew Research Center found the number of eligible Asian American voters since the last midterm increased to 13.3 million voters. That’s a 9 percent increase.

Most of them are clustered in California where there are 4.2 million Asian American voters, followed by New York, 1.1 million, and Texas, 930,000. Hawaii and New Jersey round out the top five with each having more than 500,000 Asian American voters.

Overall in the country, Asian Americans account for more than 5 out of every 100 voters, enough to make a difference in a closely contested race.

More than half of Asian Americans in the United States are eligible to vote and most are naturalized citizens-57%.

As past polls have indicated, Asian American voters are more likely to have a bachelor’s degree, 50% v 33% of the overall population.

They are also more likely to have a post-graduate degree, 19% v 12%.

A previous poll conducted by Pew in August found Asian Americans are much more likely to vote Democrat-57% v 26% who say they will likely vote for a Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives.
